March 30th

Reading is an important part of writing, because unless you understand what you're writing about there is no way for it to be good. You can't write a paper about a subject with out reading up on it. In order for me to improve my reading, I need to actually read for understanding and not to find answers to questions. I also need to learn how to read like the writer, so I can actually write a good response.
" When you read like a writer you work to identify some of the choices the author made so that you can better understand how such choices might arise in your own writing"  "As you read in this way, you think about how the choices the author made and the techniques they used can influence your own responses as a reader." ( Bunn 72) What this means to me is that you don't have to read for understanding as I previously stated, but you need to put yourself in the authors shoes, in order to really understand what the reading is about. When you understand what the reading is about then you can write a great response to it.
" Talking with your professors and peers about texts can not only help you understand your readings better, but it can push your thinking and clarify your own stances on issues that really matter to you." (Rosenberg 212) I like this quote because this is something I learned personally that actually helps you. When I do a reading by myself I don't understand it as well as I would if I talked to someone else about it. That doesn't just works for readings but movies also. I like to get other peoples opinions and thoughts about a reading because they help me to form my own thoughts. When you talk with people about the reading it helps you to form your response paper to it.
Both of these article taught me how to better understand what i'm reading. When I can understand what Im reading I can write a better paper on it. I also feel as though I actually know what I read and I can have a conversation about it.
